for the LS 7
This is a 'Classic' British loudspeaker, of the late 70's and 80's.
A two way desighn monitor, with a single port in the front, and although early versions were single wired ( two binding posts ), later it was modified for bi-wiring.
It's an 8ohm speaker, with 88 dB/1w/1mtr efficiency, and a maximum rating of 200 W.
The quality of build is excellent, and although, I cannot give specific sizes for the drivers, it uses quality components, with the main driver build in a cast basket. It seems to me an 8 inch driver.
Their sound can be best described as natural, very different from modern loudspeaker presentation.
Not the last word in neutrality, but this speaker has a seductive ability to make music in such a way, that the listener soon can forget all the 'jargon' about specifics, and just simply enjoy the music.
If placed away from walls, well into the room, and at a distance of 1.5 to 2 mts. from one another, the speakers 'dissappear', in a literal sense, and all you have left is music with good width, depth and hight.
They sound best driven by valve amplifiers, although a good solid state amplifier can also make them 'sing'.
They go very low, for a monitor speaker, and the bass they produce is tuneful and articulate, but not extremely fast, like some of the more modern speakers. However, it's also not 'fat' or 'slow', I guess it's just right.
They will play fairly loud, but when they pushed at high SPL's they start losing some of their magic, so idealy they should be used in medium sized rooms.
Finaly, the top end is reproduced in a very civilized manner, these speakers won't "tizz", so they are ideal for reproducing accurately violins, brass instruments, and in general Classical music.
I had mine for over a year now, even though, I also use large KEF References, I always enjoy the 'magic' natural sound of these speakers.
Highly recomended to anyone that cares more about the music, rather than the 'technotalk' of modern and more advanced (??) desighns..
Product Weakness: On the 'warm' side, bass not the most tight by modern standards.
Nothing else, they leave a lot of modern speakers, standing!Product Strengths: Natural sound reproduction, forget about the hardware and simply enjoy the music.
Great at imagine, these speakers dissappear leaving you alone with the sound.
