I Purchased this pair (serial numbers 30304, 30305) in the spring of 1981. Manufactured November 1980. Aside from the foam grill cloth they are completely stock.

When I first bought them they impressed me with how well they could reproduce the female voice as well as stringed instruments. Life-like and transparent depending on what preamp/amp/turntable/cartridge was in play. These are very dependent on the signal chain and synergy of the system. Sometimes great-sometimes not so great. Having racked my poor brain, I now realize that they have fallen in and out of favor over the years due in no small part to what was feeding them.

Of late I have had them hooked to a Transcendent Sound Grounded Grid preamp feeding a Bob Latino ST-70 as well as a T-16 OTL from Transcendent Sound. They are being fed from an iMac running Pure Music feeding an outboard DAC.

Oh my. They still have it. Actually, they have never sounded this good! Imaging is spot on, width of the sound stage is extremely wide. Bass is tight and well controlled but it is readily apparent that my ears have gotten used to using subwoofers. There is a rolloff at around 42Hz.

I can't believe that they are over thirty and still sound this great!

Product Weakness: Foam grill cloth rots out in the sun. Crossover is not accessible.
Product Strengths: The design has held up well. They can truly sing!
