High Efficiency Speaker Asylum: REVIEW: Carfrae Horns Big Horn Speakers by Bob Bales

The first thing about these speakers that you will notice is the size and shape. They are very large (7ft tall) but the shape is very easy on the eye and they need hiding in corners which helps. They have a single driver, a DX4, which when installed in these hand made, computor designed horns become astounding! The horns go down to 32hz, which is low enough for most music. The horn is over 3 mts long with no false bending of the curve which is made in a special vacuum process out of 18mm birch ply. The bass and driver holder is solid maple. With a 108db rating they are lightning fast with the ability to produce detail on a truly amazing scale.

The biggest strength in my opinion is the presence in the room it gives the music. The reallistic scale of the soundstage without the need for pinpoint positioning of the listener. The speakers dissapear from the system leaving a dynamic range and speed of reproduction, once heard never forgotten! I run them on 1-3 watts and if I let them have six I can reproduce the back of a heavy metal concert, you litrally cannot hear yourself shout. But there is no nasty distortion at loud levels. Put choires or organ music in or my beloved brass then they join you in your room.

I have not seen these speakers mentioned on AA and I have compared them to many horns such as the Avantguards which don't come close.

Not very practical to have but if you can....
