After searching for neutral speakers, I came across these. I wanted something that would integrate well with my computer which has a tv card, as well as a very nice video card. They needed also to be excellent for 2 channel "pure" audio. I wanted good bass response, and clean extended highs. When auditioning these, I brought half a dozen cds and dominated the listening room for a good part of the day. The active bass was quite useful for room tuning. After buying them (the audition went wonderfully) I've a few words about their sound. The bass is great, two small woofers together sounds better in th 40Hz region than one big one, and the lower frequencies are also quite tight, but deep enough to shake your guts. The nautilus tweeter is incredible, smooth, clean extended highs. As with any metal dome, bad SS amps are painful, but with decent amplification it is high frequency heaven. Imaging is excellent, due to their extremely high level of build quality. This build quality also avoids boxy resonances that would otherwise color the bass. The midrange is a little thin, making some vocals sound slightly inaccurate, but I suspect it is not the speakers, but cd as a source in general. Separation of instruments within similar frequencies is excellent. The neutrality of these speakers makes them very sensitive to related equipment and placement, not to mention acoustics. Very fast and detailed in all frequencies. Best sub-3500 full range speakers I've heard.
