Video Asylum: REVIEW: Yamaha 2095 Receiver by Jim

I purchased this receiver after a bad experience with 3 Sony DD receivers. The Yamaha has been very trouble free. The DSP modes are very good compared to other effects I've heard and can be manipulated to reduce
delays and reverbs even on DD and DTS, Nice feature as a lot of Makers seem to over due this! A front panel hides the controls and has inputs for camcorders or game systems(I have a 9 Yr old,go fig) with S video. In my opinion the sound is quite good although I need to use better speakers, hey I needed 7.1. The amp never seems to stress at movie theatre levels, which can be very loud. I like that it is somewhat future proof, at this point I don't want more than 7.1 speakers! The movie DSP modes are pretty good although I have reduced the effects slightly,in some cases a lot or listen without the effects. I feel that it is a great movie machine. The DSP modes for the rest of the music modes are too echoey for me, again reduce effects levels or go 2 channel. I like the phono input as I listen to a lot of albums, note that it is MM or high output MC. The amp is 4ohm capable and Paradyme said that it would be comfortable with this although my speakers are 8 ohm. The remote is better than the Sony's I had(2 broke along with the receivers) But it is VERY large. On the plus side it is programable and does macros functions. The Yamaha is very flexible. It may not be high end but partnered with some quality components I believe it performs excellently. For someone who wants to play DVD's and movies this is a winner, IMO! The tuner is pretty good, I use a powered Terk and have no problems getting my stations here, even the public classical stations which are weak! I felt I got a good price $1529 including tax at the not so Good Guy's. The salesperson was leaving to work in a high end dealer in San Fran. Shame, he was very good. One note, anytime I emailed Yamaha with a question they got back to me no more than a day later, Sony rarely answers at all. If anyone has a recommendation as to an amp upgrade or tweaks with my system please let me know.
