for the DH-101
I'va had this small preamp for over ten years. It's very transparent. The phono section is also very good. I've compared this cheap looking preamp to an ARC SP-12 and a Conrad Johnson PV 10. Although the Hafler didn't have the balance of the other two, it was the only one that was not veiled. Too bad that it's so cheaply built. The sockets on the back are NOT audiophile grade and they tend to bend everytime I hook a wire on it. Also, the push-buttons on the front keep ejecting. Finally, the balance control is out of control. Nevertheles, it just let's the music passes thru. For the price, it's hard to beat. You can usually get them for less than 100$ on ebay. I wish Hafler had done an as good sounding preamp properly built.
Product Weakness: very poorly built Product Strengths: very transparent sound
