The CP-45 has the typical Classe combination of clean, smooth, warm sound with wide, deep soundstage and good, if not the ultimate in detail. Bass is deep and extended. This is a very quiet preamp. With the volume control cranked up, there is virtually complete silence during quiet passages. For vinyl reproduction, the optional $200.00 phono board is surprisingly good and gives CD playback a good run for the money. The phono board is easily configured for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges by placement of gold jumpers. Moving coil gain can be optimized by swapping gain resistors on the phono board with other values supplied in a bag with a piece of high quality solder by Classe.
