for the ERA Gold MM Phonoamp/ Elevator MKIII Head Amp(EXP Version)

Physically, the ERA Gold MM phono amp and the Elevator headamp do not look impressive but the real surpirse is in the sound! The Elevator with a gain of 24db when paired with the 41.5db gain of theERA Gold mm phonoamp will provide sufficient gain( total 65.5db) for most of the mm or mc cartridges. For this review, the two units were connected with a cheap Linn interconnect and the phonoamp connected to the pre with my diy twisted pair silver.
Fresh fron the box, the sound was really BAD. With music played through it for about eight hours and the unit powered on for about two days, the sound then really begin to sing. Don't attempt to listen to it before minimum running in.
The combo better the Linn Linto in all areas by a clear margin. There were lots of detail especially the range around the vocals and instruments. I begin to hear lots of information that was obscure or not there before. The entire sound took on a cleaness and clarity with hardly any harshness or edginess. Harmonic richness were in abundance. Prat were well served. The soundstage though slightly narrower then the Linto was more extended both to the front and backwards. Every notes were clearly anchored in the soundstage with the spaces in between clearly cut out. The highs were well extended and the mids were detailed and sweet and clean without any harshness or sense of splashyness. The bass are slightly leaner that may give a misconception of lesser bass but actually goes deeper and are better controlled and clean.
To make things short, it is enough to say that if you like me thinks that the Linn Linto is good and value for money, you will be in for a big shock. And they are both similarly priced here in Singapore. And for those who owns the Lehman it is also time to upgrade- my Linto was used to replace my Lehman in the first place! I have already put up my Linto for sale! Period
