I admit that I have nothing to compare this cartridge to other than the original junker that was horrible sounding, however,I am a satisfied customer ! The Black is used on a 1981 Technics plastic turntable.I experience no hum.Maybe due to it having a DC motor ? Considering my low budget setup vs. what other inmates own,the base is tight and clear on all forms of music so far.Midrange is as good as it gets.Treble is decent but could stand for improvement.Stereo separation is wonderful ! Tracking..well..so far so good but i'm not a vinyl junkie so I cant go into deep technical detail regarding my tonearm settings. I have to take into account that maybe my Luxman preamp also has a decent phono section that certainly attributes to the sound.I would recommend this cartridge highly for those on a tight budget or using an older lower end turntable.I prefer this sound to this day over any digital format. I have to use equalizer software to improve the dynamics on any digital sound. The Grado Black will offer you quality period. One question for anyone who might respond:would the Green or higher offer more improvement that would justify the price increase ?

Product Weakness: treble sounds sloppy-could be due to my cheap TT
Product Strengths: tight base and midrange
