for the VIVID
just had the opportunity to sit down and critically listen to a poorly recorded CD i knew quite well, first cleaned w/ optrix, listened to, then treat w/ vivid, and then listened to again.optrix: a cleaner presentation. proverbial "veil is lifted", like a thin thin cloud of smoke is lifted off the presentation. a good thing or a bad thing depending solely on software (i.e. extremely bright discs sound brighter now---the haze was an improvement over the tonal balance of the disc! digital sucks i admit, but its the road i'm on). slight improvement in low level detail.
vivid: improvement in image depth. better front to back stage, better density of objects. makes the worst about digital audibly better. some improvement in tonal balance of aforementioned bright cds---they clean up the glare associated with bad digital.
the combo may seem contradictory, but it doesn't sound that way. the optrix gets you to neutral, the vivid makes it more enjoyable.
at least that's the way i hear it.
