for the NewFoam

In the process of buying vintage speakers, I learned the woofers needed new foam surrounds. I began researching various DIY kits to keep costs down. I had never done a surround replacement before, and I wasn't sure about the process to use. Some prefer not to remove the dust caps, but some other method for centering the voice coil is needed. It would be possible to partially detach the old ones and then re-glue them later. I finally decided to do the dust cap removal and shimming method. This is based on the video that demonstates the simplicity of this method. I purchased the NewFoam kit because they have an exact replacement for Advents. You provide some speaker information: speaker model, driver bolt hole diameter, cone diameter, dust cap diameter, and cone material. I purchased the deluxe kit (NewFoam Pro) which includes new dust caps, shims, and an instuctional video. All I needed to supply was a sharp "Exacto" knife or even a simple razor blade. After ordering, there is virtually no processing time. My kit was shipped USPS priority mail within 48 hours. The video takes you step by step with a technician as he does a complete re-foam. You simply cannot make a mistake if you follow the steps and his instructions. Just take the time to allow the glue to fully dry. To re-foam both speakers took me about 8 hours, nearly all of it waiting for the glue to dry 3 times. You will be rewarded with like-new appearance and performance. Highly recommended.
