The last and best of the "old" dbx (consumer audio) -- this is a five band dynamic expander with [too] much adjustment potential. Unlike earlier models with "impact restoration," the amount of recovery is adjustable for five frequency bands. Most earlier units did not optionally compress the signal either. I have not tried compression, but a reviewer said it could be used for such cases as playing classical music for background use or for party mixes. The 5bx is a "downward expander" and (unlike earlier units) will not expand above a selected threshold. Has five memories to save your favorite settings (you'll need to replace the Li. battery first, tho.)

Product Weakness:	Major tweaking opportunity: there is a huge range of adjustment, and takes a while to find your favorite settings. Acme product of a long-dead audio co.
Product Strengths:	Almost perfect expander ... rarely any artifacts or pumping. Major tweaking opportunity. IR remote possible.
