for the Norah Jones - Come Away With Me (45RPM Clarity Vinyl)

I have wanted to try Classic's 45RPM Clarity vinyl series but have not pulled the trigger until very recently. I have posted on this forum my feelings about Classic's past QC problems but felt that a company that works hard on getting it right deserves the benefit of a doubt so I took the plunge.

Norah Jones Come Away With Me has been released in a lot of formats (including several from Classic) and has received sufficient praise from all circles so I expected a high quality pressing with sonics that are damm near impossible to complain about. It is here, in this pressing, in spades.

The LP comes as four single sided 200gm 45 RPM pressings. Track 1-4 is on LP A1, tracks 5-7 on LP A2, tracks 8-11 are on LP B1 and tracks 12-14 are on LP B2. All LPs arrive in heavy poly sleeves with LP A1 in the high quality gatefold cover. I would prefer that they ship the cover without a LP inside, but it is a small, but important issue.

The gatefold cover (containing LP A1) and the remaining 3 LPs (in their poly sleeves) are housed in a red box with a sheet of bubble wrap below the 4th LP and above the gatefold cover. The set comes with a Classic Records response card. If you are familiar with Classic this is the same one that comes in all of their LPs. There also are a couple of marketing things inside to complete the package.

The distincive redbox has a white band horizontally centered around the box with a small adhesive dot on the rear holding the white band in place. The while package is sealed in shrink wrap and has a couple of stickers affixed identifying the pressing type, etc.

With the exception of the issue of shipping LP A1 in the gatefold cover I could not find any fault in the packaging and it's fit and finish were perfect. A rare item in this day and age.

Clarity vinyl pressings are a translucent milky white color. The unpressed side of all four LPs has the Classic Record name etched into the flat surface and other markings letting you know what you have in hand.

The labels were centered well on all four LPs and the unpressed sides include a stroboscope type label to assist in checking your turntable's speed if you need such a thing. All LPs were trimmed well and absolutely flat.

The packaging and pressing quality is the best I have seen since the demise of MoFi's UHQR series of heavy weight LPs. In spite of the bad mothing that MoFi gets around here I am sure anyone familiar with the old MoFi UHQR understands what I am saying. This is as high praise that I can give any vinyl product.

The sonics on this pressing were nothing short of amazing. I am a hard case about pressing quality and the sonics that a LPs should have. This pressing includes all of the qualities a serious vinylphile seeks.

Every aspect of the performance is there in beautiful detail and each noise, whatever the source, and however subtle, is included and distinctly conveyed. The quietness of the Clarity vinyl rivals the old JVC super vinyl pressings which have been valued by many vinylphiles for many years.

I had high hopes for this series and have not been dissappointed. I have already ordered (actually pre-ordered at the time) a copy of Jethro Tull's Aqualung on 45 RPM Clarity vinyl and as I write this it has been shipped. I expect not to be dissappointed.

Ed

Product Weakness: LP A1 is shipped inside the gatefold cover within the red box. Other than that there are no weaknesses I(I know its ard to fathom).
Product Strengths: The return of old fashioned high quality LP pressing. Very quiet vinyl and faultless sonics.
