What we have here is another reissue of an over played LP from the Classic Rock era. Some reissues are not worth bothering for but this one is one of those products that is done with the care a music lover has for an LP they have long loved.

Ten Years After is a band you either loved or hated and they were led by a lead guitarist that could stand up with the best of the classic rock breed. Alvin Lee played his hollow body axe with the best of them and many of Ten Years After's LPs include a lot of lead guitar riffs that were made famous on their live tours.

Ten Years After is very famous for the performance they did at Woodstock and several other live venues. Live Like A Man and many other songs found a lot of teenagers air guitaring and Alvin Lee rightfully earned a reputation as a great lead guitarist.

The LP here, A Space In Time, is Ten Yeras After's most commercially successful and finds TYA in good form. The thing is that this LP is strange for a TYA LP is that it isn't a container for a lot of grinding lead guitar solos and you will find a lot of acoustic guitar work here.

That's not to say the album is totally without its lead guitar moments but you get the impression that this LP is not what it is all about. And it isn't. A Space In Time is a great listen from beginning to end and possesses Ten Yers After's most successful single, I'd Love To Change The World.

The sound quality of this LP took me by surprise by a bit. I hoped for improved SQ but this is one of those reissues that is decidedly a cut above all of the original pressings I have heard. It has moments where you hear things you lose in lesser pressings and it has dynamics that are very refreshing. The sound is very well balanced and has the quality you would hope a top quality reissue has but sometimes does not. It also possesses that organic quality that only the better pressings have. The cymbals hang in the air as if the performance is in your listening room and pieces of the performance are absolutely stellar.

The LP is pressed on very quiet 180+ gram vinyl and comes in a medium weight very glossy gatefold cover. This LP is pressed at Chad Kassem's Quality Record Pressings and has the quality one would expect from that operation.

This is simple thing, really. If you want a really good pressing of this LP go out and spend the thirty bucks for this product. If you are convinced that the pressing that you own is good enough ignore this review and let others enjoy this great reissue.

It really is that good,
Ed

Product Weakness: Maybe you have heard enough of this LP
Product Strengths: A great pressing of a very good LP
