just played with some old CDs. As any good audiophile, I have duplicate CDs. So, as a proper skeptical cynic, I cut the older copy of the CD. It's true the supplied black marker aint great. The Auric Illuminator marker was better. However, in either case, the sound was less dark. The treble was honed & shimmered into new life. Before you ask, I'm not talking bright or harsh. I'm talking about increased discernable voicing & imaging of instruments. The instruments that shimmer do, those that don't, don't. No ohs, no ahs, just YES now that's correct.

FWIW, I didn't notice an audible difference in cut angle (whether it's tappered on the data or label side). I tried this 1st to combat smears from fingerprints, but developed a spin dry procedure to prevent such (just crank the lathe at max RPM for a minute after application). However, I didn't try a packed CD yet. I'm sure if the edge were near the data (or vice versa), this taper direction may be an issue.

Sonicly, it gives an Orpheus CD mat type sound. I was trying to achieve such, because my good CD player is a carousel, of which I'm leary of using CD mats on. I walk in trepidation over jamming a drawer carousel. This is the only thing I miss in my last POS top-loading carousel. This makes me feel like I can do without mats. Yeah.

I tried them on my bedroom mid-fi system too, on which sounded remarkably revealing. In fact, the sound was such that I was glad the X-10D was in line. The reproduction was "almost" bright on my metal domes, but otherwise gave similar results.

I'll give you an update when I circumcise a CDR for my bro's machine. This ought to be the nuts, but isn't my system.

PS: below is a synopsis of my system, but my livingroom system listed in the inmate page more thoroughly if interested.
