I've had this amp in my system for about 2 months now. So I suspect it's almost sufficiently broken in. In my home sysem, I had an old Rotel RA870 as that is my previous amp in my current system and Bryston BP60. Other amps I listened to at the various shops but not in my system included Naim NAIT3, Musical Fidelity A300, Arcam Alpha 9, Sim I-5 amongst others.
My current system, Ariston RD-80 TT, Grado Prestige Silver cartridge, Hafler SE150 CD player, Magnum Dynalab FT11 tuner, Akai GX440 Reel x Reel, Mordaunt-Short MS100 gold speakers, M&K VX-7 Sub.
In comparison to the MF A300, the YBA is not as "warm" sounding though. In comparison to the Rotel, the YBA is an eye opener. I always considered the Rotel as entry level into the "high-end". The YBA probably IS the "high-end" though costs three times as much. The soundstage is far more 3-dimensional (deeper and wider). I feel the Rotel tonal character in producing brass more "real" sounding in my system but the YBA portrays a nicer (also further back) soundstage and there's a lot more detail. The YBA also carried excellent rhythm, something I liked about the Bryston and SIM amps. I also liked the sound of the Naim NAIT3 but the cable lenghth and DIN jack limitations made the system too quirky for the WAF. I found myself playing all my old LPs and CDs over again and finding that even the recordings I never liked suddenly sounded enjoyable. That's a lot of LPs and CDs and ReelxReel tapes. I'm going to be in my listening room for awhile...My neighbour came over after dinner one night and we stayed up until 3:00am listening to some of my old LPs.
