for the V-8i

I'm trying it again...
In an effort to simplify my system I am evaluatiing the Dussun V8i in the home. Ping Gong (AAA Audio) is a knowledgeable and gracious man, and shipped the unit to me without payment up front! I of course mailed him a check the same day I placed the order, but that kind of intermittent trust is what makes me feel good about spending my hard earned cash with folks like him....Bravo Ping.

Anyway, it just arrived today, and just like the Korsun branded unit, its very sexxy, built like a brick poop shack and has oodles of power and dynamics out of the box...this thing grabs the electrostats and woofers on my SL-3's like nobody's business...but at this point it's also lifeless, lacking stage width/depth and musicality...

Not to worry,...I wasn't expecting much right out of the box. As of this typing, its only been on for about 1/2 hr, and I think I am even now starting to hear some life ooze in...

Unlike the Korsun branded unit though, when I turn on the Dussun V8i I hear ZERO mechanical hum and ZERO hum from my speakers: A very good sign, and as an owner of the grey market purchased Korsun unit, I can say that there is obviously great merit to the whole power transformer finagling done by non-authorized grey market retailers. Needless to say, AAA Audio is an authorized Dussun retailer for the USA...

So, as I listen to various types of music- Jazz, Blues, Classical and R&B... experiment with different types of power cords, speaker wires, interconnects and using a tube pre ahead of the V8i... I will allow the unit to play thus giving it a fair shake at breaking in some so I can properly evaluate it. I am really hoping things get better with the staging and musicality (and they are)...its a sexy peice of gear and really makes you proud to own it. Everything about the build quality you've heard is true in spades. If it weren't for the hum issues with the Korsun unit I probably would have never gotten rid of it...but in the end its still about the sound...

More to come...

Product Weakness: Somewhat lifeless, lacks sound stage width/depth and musciality.
Product Strengths: Nothing that hasn't already been said before: Build quality! Power! Dynamics!
