The Grado SR60 look like 50's hearing test headphones, as others have noted. The band is glove soft leather in which is contained a thin strip of stainless steel. Foam covers the entire speaker. It rests on the ear instead of enclosing it. Many have said that this is uncomfortable, and specifically that the metal makes them too tight. I do not find them to be too tight at all. The design is efficient and the quality is excellent. I had the opposite impression of those who say SR60 are not comfortable, and I do not want to take them off- As for sound- an example of the detail that is talked about will be in your ear within seconds. The sound is never distant. The bass is clean. The highs never distort. The sound is clear, fluid, effortless. Disc to speaker to ear to brain becomes seamless and you forget about wanting or needing new headphones. I listen to 18th Century (and earlier) authetic reproduction, Delta blues (20' and 30's), Chicago blues, Jazz (instruments, vocalists). The SR60 are perfect for this. If you listen to music in which bass is a big part, you may want to trust what has been said about this and get the SR80 or higher.
