This is for the MSB Link DAC II or III as modified by Dan Wright. Go to his layout @ themorgue.org for complete list of parts. The upgrade is substantial and the cost is $200 plus you supply the Link Dac of course.
This is a great sounding piece of gear. I did notice a little burn in time for it to really stand up and shout. This may have to do w/ my just adding new HarmTech Pro-Silway II interconnects though. The detail is very good. Very crisp and clean w/o the dreaded sssssss sound that comes when vocals get to bright. The upper mid range really shines on this unit. The bass is very good also. Never boomy. Rather tight and very focused.
This unit will show your bad recordings though. As should any quality of audio gear it plays what is there and does not add a lot of its own to the mix. If you already have a MSB and like it now why spend big bucks to get the latest from Perpetual Technologies or EVS. Get the upgrade and most of the benefits from the DAC of the month sensation for only a quarter of the price. This sounds great and you have loved your MSB all this time anyway! think of what a little Hot Rodding will do for an already great DAC!
