I use my turntable (a hopped-up Linn LP12) as my main source. My CDP is an eight-year-old CAL Ikon Mark II. I had hesitated to upgrade because of the cost and because of my generally low opinion of the CD format, but I hedged my bets and got this new Audio Note kit DAC. This was only my second attempt at a kit--I bought a very inexpensive preamp kit as practice for the DAC--and it went very well. The DAC and the instructions are very high quality. I just finished it last night and the improvement to my CAL is really astounding. The sound is much more open, transparent and detailed, and very musical. It is also excellent rhythmically. This constitutes the best $700 I have ever put into my hifi, and means that now when I find a CD I like I can just enjoy the music and not scheme up ways to get an LP version.
