Cable Asylum: REVIEW: Van den Hul the Wind mk II Hybrid Cable by ulf

After many years of upgrading I now have in my opinion a high end system centerd around our local swedish built QLN Artec speaker. Its a big floorstanding design (around the eq. of 5.000 US$)with the same woofers(4 of them) as in Wilson WITT. The last step was to repace the budget van den Huul Clearwater speaker cable with something better. Reading all the good things about Harmonic Tech cables (They are very popular here in Scandinavia) I had almost settled for the Pro 9 plus. Since the Artec is built for best result with triwiring (with WBT conectors) it was quite a big investment, around 20.000 swedish crowns, for Pro 9 biw and a run of Pro 9 singlew (2.400 US$). I was fortunate to try at home used and burnt Pro 9 on loan from a friend. My expectations was high but to my disbelif the sonic result was far from satisfaction. Surely the resolution was a little bit better than my old cable and the bass a little more extended but the difference was subtle and I felt that music was not so much engaging with the new cables. I returned the cables. Reading a good review of the new Van den Hul The Wind mk 2 cable I decided to buy it without listning since the price was low (5.000 sw crowns triwired). And what a major lift in my system! They clearly outperformed the HT cable with great improvments in better resolution and soundstage, more and better defind
bass and above all a suberb reproducing of the midrange. This midrange bliss gave me for the first time the imagin that the singers are "live" in front of me. For a small sum I have completed my system and it has now no obvios weak link. Compared to the best systems there is still some lacking in attack or "slam" on rock music in the middle bass. But I dont know if thats the blame of the cables.
But I m still puzzled over the weak performance of the HT cables. My friend who used them in a very expensiv 40,000$ system was not contend with them either and they are now for sale.
