Power Chord Flavour #2.

I have a simple mid-fi system consisting of a Akira DVD player hooked up directly to my China-made Thunder EL34 which I bought some 15 years ago ACR i/c. Recently, built Brines FT-1600 full range speaker with Chris VH Cat 5 Speaker cable.

6 months back, I tried the PC from Chris initial recipe using Belden 83802 and replaces my stock cable with vast improvement. It sounded more detail and gives better dynamics. Imaging with Fostex speaker is great but the PC improves it with better seperation.

It's been 3 months that Chris propriety cable for Flavour #2 arrived but I did not continue to fabricate it because the Belden is doing a very good job already. Not until last night when I purchased the wattgate to replace the normal IEC plug.

I built them and plug let it play overnight with very soft music playing.

I did a serious listening this morning after little break-in. I am surprised that I am getting the same significant improvement when I replaced the stock cable with belden. Chris cable is that much better than the Belden. I thougt the Belden was good enough but this one is still bring it on a higher standard. Surprise. Volume knob needs to turn lesser. I regard it as a more efficient power usage and cleaner line.

The background is definitely darker. Details prevail and flawlessly. Imaging is superb. I gain height and more fullness in the vocals. Vocals move a step forward and instruments together with the backup singer goes all over the place behind the main singer or lead instruments.

What a change a power chord brings.

I still have some length of the cable and I am going to change the internal power wiring of the amp to this cable so thus leasving no chance for a poor connection....

Looks like Diy prevail again!

Product Weakness: Have to do to it yourself!
Product Strengths: Clean up power lines ( dunno how it did it but it does ), darker background, very detail and musical.
