for the High Current Cord

One day I received a phone call from a friend who just got a good deal on a second hand Telwire HC cord and they wanted me to bring over my current reference power cord for comparison. I was very excited to hear the cord because I've heard many good things about the standard cord.My reference power cord is the Gutwire Power Clef SE which is a tad more expensive at $900. We installed the Power Clef SE first because we were both familiar with it's sound qualities. We listed to a variety of music, from stringed quartets,to Pink Floyd. The amplifier used was a Classe CA-400 power amp. This como had excellent soundstaging, seperation, and endless bass. The only complaint I had was the treble was a little upfront. After several hours of listening to the Power Clef SE,we installed the Telwire HC cord.I noticed the HC cord had fairly decent build quality, but nothing special at the price point.Once installed,I immediately noticed a reduction in volume, followed by a very indistinct bass which lacked clarity and definition.I did notice a clear presentation, but it lacked substance. The HC was fairly quiet, but the background was not as black as the Gutwire. On complex music the Telwire sounded congested and the sounstage collasped. The rather weak bass of the HC made for a balance that favored the upper registers. We were both surprised at what we heard and decided to try the HC on his cd player. The HC performed much better on the cd player. This suggests to me that the Telwire HC is not particularly suited for high current amps YMMV.The HC was clear, but that easily turned into boring. After listening to this power cord on a high current amp, I would not recommend it for such use.

Product Weakness: weak bass, restricted dynamics, can sound boring
Product Strengths: clear
