I bought this cable to replace my Monster digital 100 coaxial from my DVD player to my Yamaha RX V2095. I went into my local store and listened to the MIT coax cables and brought mine in to compare. I listened on comparable equiptment,(Sony 555es receiver and Pioneer 525dvd with Paradigm speakers). The first cable in was the Lower line of MIT coax and I really didn't care for it, the sound of voices were unatural and/or cupped if the term is correct,1st time I'd heard that but have heard it described in here. We then put in my Monster cable and the sound was not altogether bad, better than the entry level MIT. The Monster didn't seem to do anything really wrong, although detail was not altogether as good as the MIT and the bass was a little weak so we then tried the Digital Reference 1 and the voices was near perfect. Not only the bass was cleaner and punchier the upper end was not too harsh and very detailed. I didn't pay retail and was very happy to bring this huge beast of a cable home. The usual breakin for MIT stuff is extensive but the improvements even cold were a definate improvement when installed at home. I noticed details I didn't know were there previously, cool. This lasted only a couple of days though. I was cleaning up behind the receiver when I moved the MIT wire and the sound cut out. *%#*, I moved it around and found that it had a short,(poor soldering job?) and took it back. Apparently they, MIT, had a production run that was bad. The dealer told me this before I bought it and we made sure it worked but apparently this one slipped thru. Anyway I got a new one ordered from MIT and back to the break in process. I really like the sound I'm getting from my set up now but kind of feel that at the price you pay the little things like it working should be worked out! Overall though I very much like the performance. The cable itself is huge for a digital cable and VERY STIFF! If you have a short distance in a cabinent or wall be warned as it doesn't bend easily. The connecters are excellent as they lock on and the whole cable has a braided exterior. Overall I love the sound but be sure it works right.
