This past December I sent off for interconnect cables from LessLoss, a small company in Lithuania. This was as a result of the very favorable experience I had in ordering their DAC-2004 in the couple months prior. The people at LessLoss appear to be very genuine, personable, dedicated audio experts with a background in a high-end recording studio. They were exceptionally generous with their time in explaining various things to me, something I am sure will be impossible for them to continue as they become more well-known.My system consists of a LessLoss DAC-2004 slaved (temporarily) to an original Rega Planet, an Audio Research LS-15 preamp, two Classe CA-200's in monoblock configuration, and Legacy Whispers. Interconnect and speaker wire consisted entirely of Red Dawn. I ordered LessLoss interconnect to completely replace the Red Dawn, to include 2-meter runs going to the amps. All my interconnect is balanced. The Red Dawn is very flexible. The LessLoss interconnect is about 3/4" in diameter and not as flexible. Because of this and the non-rotational nature of a balanced connection, it is necessary to tailor the interconnect to your components. Trust me, a SMALL price to pay!
I have to say that prior to receiving the LessLoss cables I was in the "you're _______ crazy" camp of those responding to anyone who said they could hear a difference between cables. It's all just a big rip-off scheme--right? The only reason I ordered the cable in the first place was as a result of the trouncing the LessLoss DAC-2004 dealt to my Wadia 830. When I received the LessLoss cables my enthusiasm was not the usual adrenaline rush one feels upon receipt of a new audio component (like the DAC-2004). I figured that I would have to listen long and hard and, maybe, with a little imagination, I might hear a difference. Well, to get to the point, the following is a copy of the E-mail I fired off to LessLoss the next day after going nearly sleepless listening to my favorite CD's.
"Oh my GOSH!!!
I absolutely would NEVER have believed cables would make THIS much difference!!
I carefully listened to Pope Music's "Reel 3 Sampler" with my Red Dawn. Then I re-listened with your cables. I really don't know what to say.
FAR more detail. I'm hearing things I couldn't even BEGIN to hear on the first listen. Are these the same components?! Is that the same CD?! Bass that is super-tight, powerful, and precise. Highs that are crystalline and seem to extend forever. The imaging is darn close to live. As soon as the music started for the second listen I glanced at the volume setting on the Audio Research to see if I had set it higher than on the first listen. I had not. I am absolutely floored. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE who doesn't believe cables make a HUGE difference, I have the proof right here if they want to listen for themselves. I am not selling the Red Dawn--I'm keeping them for demonstration purposes for the unbelievers. (I was, for the most part, one of them.)
And I'm using your DAC-2004 slaved to an original Rega Planet! Please hurry with a transport! (Wait a minute, don't hurry--take whatever time you need.)
Liudas and Vilmantas--you guys are IT! You obviously know what you are doing, and then some. I will be ordering another DAC and two transports and more cable in the near future [for my bedroom system]. Any ideas on loudspeaker cables?
So happy I could bust! Thank you!"
I am an ordinary audiophile, just like you. I have no affiliation with LessLoss whatsoever. I just have to tell you that my dealings with them have been nothing but a pleasure and a revelation.
Product Weakness: The Atlantic Ocean and the Euro. Product Strengths: Fantastic detail top-to-bottom. Smooth mid and treble--not bright at all. Incredible dynamics and wide-open soundstage. A real pleasure to deal with the people at LessLoss.
