I wanted to try a real phono cable as I had been using Audioquest Anaconda for a long time and it provided excellent service as one. I had heard quite a bit about Hovland and Graham cables so I decided on purchsing one.
I couldn't find Graham as RCA to RCA but was able to find Hovland at Elusive Disc. They advertised as 1 Meter but I was sent 1.25 Meter and when I enquired adout 1 Meter, I was told Hovland did not make it. I knew it as a BS story but I decided to keep it.
The cable burn in required almost 200 hours of playing time on my CD player as after 100 hours it seemed the treble was still not right and the midrange constricted so it went into my CD player again. After 200 hours of playing it bloomed into what I am hearing now.
So let me get to the heart of the matter. This is one fast cable. It left the Anaconda in the dust far behind in terms of bringing the music to your ears. The bass is fully rendered and it seems the Anaconda had bloated bass after listening to this cable, which is not to say the Anaconda had a problem with bass but it seemed like that. The midrange and upper highs are a treat to listen to. I am listening to Pink Floyd 'Atom Heart Mother' which I did not particularly like but listening through this cable I am begining to like it.
This cable is a little noisier than Anaconda but when the music starts you forget about the noise and start appreciating the music more. Soundstage is a little less than Anconda but it is still more than enough to seduce you. Not to sound cliched but you hear more of the music and where the Anaconda muddled a little bit when the music had all the instruments playing as in a crescendo, this cable renders them as clearly as if you were listening to them as seperate instruments.
If you can afford it buy it as it will not disappoint you. I wasn't.
