Another inmate recently made me aware of this product after I posted inquiring about the possibility of upgrading the power cord on my DVD/CD player which does not have an iec connection, but rather the two pin connector found on most DVD players. This product is essentially a jumper, about 6 inches long with the two pin connector at one end and a male iec at the other, allowing easy connection of any aftermarket powercord with an IEC connection. It utilizes HT's "single crystal" technology.

Upon receiving this adapter, I removed the stock cord on my DVD player (18 guage unshielded) and proceeded to connect a Volex 17604 cord (one mentioned fequently in the DIY/Tweak section of the asylum) which I had modified with a quality Hubbell male end and IEC. The improvements were substantial, even using this $20 DIY 14 guage shielded powercord. As I rent and don't own movies, my assessment of this product relates to its audio performance. Just about every area of performance was improved using the Volex cord, but after a few weeks of use, I noticed on the George Benson "Standing Together" CD that the bass (very pronounced and "full bodied" on this recording) was distorting. I switched a Blue Circle BC 62 power cord which I was using on my line conditioner over to the DVD/CD player and the Volex to the line conditioner. The HT adapter, regardless of its own sonic signature (if it has one) easily allowed the personality of the different cords to be heard. Whereas the Volex with the adapter was a large improvement over the stock cord, the BC 62 took it that much further, offering a smoother, "silkier" presentation than the Volex with much more midband transparency and what, at first, appeared to be a softening of the frequency extremes, both high and low. Upon further listening, though, it became apparent that the Blue Circle was simply doing a better job than the Volex, with a quieter background and much less "glare" than the Volex, which in turn had much less glare than the stock cord. The bass distortion disappeared with the Blue Circle cord; the music became more natural and "listener fatigue" was greatly reduced. This was somewhat comforting to me in that I paid about $160 for the Blue Circle cord as opposed to about $25 for the various parts of the Volex. This adapter is an excellent product, although somewhat pricey, allowing easy power cord improvements to be made to a broad range of DVD/CD players without an IEC connection for those who don't want to rip their player apart and void its warranty if still in existence. Video performance is also supposedly enhanced, although I can't really comment on that.
