for the Superlative
These IC's replaced Homegrown Silver Lace in my system: CDP to Pre to Amp; 2 pairs. The Silver had been just right with the previous Cambridge D500 and Meadowlark Kestrels which tended toward rounding off the sharp edges. When I switched to horn speakers, however, the silver was not as musical. Oddly, the situation was made worse, not better by moving from a highly 'accurate' EL-84 amp to a 2A3. And then I felt I had to have shielded cables.
Having known of Kevin Haskins since the intro of his 'Asylum Power Cable' the previous year I sought him out for the IC kit.The CCC wire appealed to me as my Bottlehead pre and amps are all wired with this type.(solid core 21 ga. CCC with enamel coating.
The kits went together well and all the components are of a high quality. As the website tells better than I, the parts are simply what you can buy on your own but Kevin provides 'one-stop shopping" and a very fair price. Plus good directions.
I'm not going to do a comparison because cables are so system dependent. And those who spend thousands on cables won't read this, anyway. But the shielding was extremely effective, eliminating one source of noise thru my 101dB speakers. And I can say that the copper is more musical with the extremely low distortion Pi Theatre 4's than was the silver.
Copper being copper, the best recommendation for the Superlatives is that they let all the detail through in a musical way. Nothing rounded off.
For 65 bucks!
Product Weakness: A royal PITA to connect the grounding braid there is a trick to it: don't cut it, pull it. Product Strengths: Very effective shielding; highly musical; great bargain
