I followed the Chris Venhaus DIY silver interconnect recipe..and made a couple of pairs of cables. The first pair I made was done exactly according to C.V's specs. When I tried it ,I found it incredibly tight & punchy with amazing High/mid-bass & unreal clarity..at first I thought they were perfect but then I realised I missed the lower bass/slight "Bloom" (extra warmth)/thickness of sound I had before with my older interconnects..These were a tad too 'clinical' maybe with a minutely harsh 'metallic' edge to them (although the harshness dissapeared after properly running them in). So I tried another pair using 24 AWG teflon insulated silver conductors wound around a 2.5 mm diameter teflon tube ...secured them with two layers of teflon tape ,then spiralled a layer of thick 'two-sided foam adhesive tape'(polyethylene I think...)over them (to put some extra distance between the conducors and shield)..& then another couple of layers of teflon tape pulled tight over that .After this ,I used some al-mylar tape to spiral an overlapping shield over the second teflon layer..& some flat braided tinned-copper wire roughly spiralled around that as a ground wire soldered to one end of the cable only. This was again held in place with a couple more layers of teflon tape...Finally I covered the whole cable with heat-shrink tubing & terminated it with good-quality Gold-plated RCA's.These , I lightly crimped to the cable-ends for strain relief & also tightly wound some teflon tape over the crimped joint to strenghthen it further. I then wound more teflon tape around the individual soldered joints (both centre and return/shield seperately..sealing them..) & some more around the pair of joints together, completely isolating them..like a sort-of cocoon..then I closed the plugs. Straight away I noticed these cables sounded AMAZING(!!!)...richer/thicker & warmer without sacrificing any of the brilliant dynamics/clarity of my first DIY pair..The double-bass/kick-drum sound especially showed dramatic improvement from the first pair of cables I made..fast ,clear and yet no thin or metallic 'ticking'sound ...in fact they were ultra-realistic & punchy! The snare too sounded snappier, thicker & more forceful with more resonance..very REAL!!Heavy guitars were up-front yet with a smoothness/richness to them ...Bass was full ,'round', tight & clearly audible apart from the rest ..Accoustic/flamenco guitar sounded airy, musical & dynamic.....and vocals were warm ,up-front & rich .The sound stage was huge! These things will stay where they are for sure...I'm totally content with the way they sound on my system ..Thanks Chris!!
