for the Vecteur D-2

After 4 weeks of playing music and various break-in noises, with the Mutine cones fitted to the bottom of the unit, and a decent isolation platform, the transport sang in my room last night.

I feel no need to repeat the superlatives well said by Neil Garder, Brad V. and several others. Just wanted to say, that the unit has replaced my long term CAL Delta, and my humble opinion is it does a good job. On the other hand, when someone said the D-2 compares favorably to transports made by Meridian, Mark Levinson, Theta, I can believe it.

For the first time I could enjoy the Loreena McKennitt's CD that appears in HP's super CD list (TAS). Her voice was just blossoming, her instrumental accompaniment being not far behind - vividly detailed and colorful. Strings were much more velvet texture and well extended into the highs, bass was full and articulate at the same time, soundstage deep and expanded, image properly located behind speakers.

Diana Krall has never sounded more intimate while still retaining the huskiness. The D-2 showed distinct layers of performers playing in the recording, and this is true for almost all CDs at various levels of granularity. Various NAXOS classical guitar CDS sound oh-so sweet and detailed that forced me to rush to closest Borders Music to get more while they are still at low prices. Barbara Bonney sings with angelic touch in one track, yet dynamic and robust voice in others. Eagle’s Hotel California and Santana's Maria Maria sound equally convincing and emotional, and while the latter provides more bass, the former more guitars’ color shades and details. I could go on and on listening to all kinds of music all night, but I had to resist the temptation and protect my ears and the peace in my family - the system is in the bedroom.

The sensor went wrong, intermittently dead for the last few days. Pascal at Mutine and Nick at True Sound have been truly supportive and offered me an excellent and courteous service. The unit will definitely be fixed in a next few days, and this is the first unit that ever experiences the issue. Otherwise, this is a well-built unit with super quick operating CD tray and without programming capability.

Overall, a very musical, solidly built, no non-sense CD transport that makes me stop dreaming about SACD and enjoy my existing and expanding CD library. For a transport at any price, it's a strong contender. At the $1,090 price, I think it's a VERY GOOD bargain. No wonder some said they abandoned the LP after hearing this transport.

Product Weakness: There might be a latency in getting the product due to high demand.
Product Strengths: Besides good sounding in "audiphile" terms, there's a distinct "woody" character to the sound that makes for a natural non-fatigue highly musical CD transport.
Superb product and service
Nice price
