Not too much to say about this player. Most folks hate it and have had problems playing cd-r's with it.Me,nah...no problems really ! Actually, it's a decent player for the money, open it up and you will find decent Wima caps and a nice laid out circuitry.I really cannot compare it to anything other than my Sony dvd player(which is just as nice sounding as the cd player),or an old 1989 Denon cd player that I no longer own.Sorry guys--my poor ass cant afford anything higher than...I honestly dont know how to describe the sound other than smooth but harsh at times and I can certainly hear the difference from players costing around $1000 or higher. I heard a Rega Jupiter something and it truly was superior. However, for the money(no more than $450), I would gladly recommend the newer model which is the c441 .Oh, food for thought--if indeed you have a poor playing cd-r then try this(I do it all the time to badly scratched dvd's that freeze up when viewing, cd's,and playstation games tortured by my son): wash the disc with luke warm water, dry thoroughly, then use"liquid gold" furniture polish and wipe gently from center to outer edge.Yep, I am a firm believer in this...it does work and very good I might add. DVD'S have a sharper deeper image and the audio improves in the treble a lot. This also applies to cd's/cd-r's,and scratched up playstation games will now play. The polish fills in those micro scrathes and pits so as to allow the laser to pick up more info off the disc which results in better clarity.Sorry, I know this is the wrong area to post this but figured it's good info to add here just the same.

Product Weakness: picky about a few cd-r's sometimes..otherwise it's a solid performer considering the $300 bucks I paid for it new
Product Strengths: decent mids and highs-you get what u pay for !
