This CD-Player was sold for $2,000; it was an incredible bargain.
All-metal Remote control. Thick front plate (too wide though, 48.5cm).
RCA and XLR output. True balanced design. Very high quality parts. Toroidal transformer. Excellent Burr-Brown 1738 DACs (hybrid 24 bits). 2nd order Bessel filter (like Muse Model 2+ DAC). Compatible HDCD.
The only thing I didn't like was the transport: it never failed, but was slow and made an irritating noise to scan a newly loaded CD.
The sound was near-perfect: neutral, dynamic, deep bass, detailed, excellent soundstage, smooth in the mid-highs..... The only possible criticism is in the mid-bass, they are slightly 'slow', too strong, but even the mid-bass are better than any player below $$2,000.
The only CD-Player that I heard which is better is the Krell SACD (but the transport of the Krell is a total failure). Two that come close - but are slightly inferior - are the Sony SCD-XA5400ES (CD mode) and the Muse Model 2+ DAC. Wadia 301+, Cary CDP-1, MSB Link II, NAD S500i, Arcam FMJ-CD33 are all markedly inferior.
