Got the player. Lousy construction. Getting past the construction. . . hooked it up and listened straight out of the box. Nothing horribly impressive yet. So I played it straight for 30 hours. Came back for a peek while it was "breaking in". Much more relaxed after a little break-in. My system isn't great, but I'm working on it. I can only compare this vs. the AMC tube CD player in equivilant price range. My impression is that the Tjoeb isn't as up-front as the AMC, the soundstage may not be so wide, but goes back quite a bit further. The higher bass/lower midrange region comes out excellent, extending to the high mid/treble. I am a tad bit dissapointed as yet of the highest treble, but maybe another 100 hours of breakin will calm that down as well. After all the mods and s/h, I got this unit for a little over $600, and in 4 days. Overall impressions? I'll probably go in and silver everything, maybe replace some caps. I really can't ask too much more of this sub-$1000 CD player.
As far as some people raving of it's over $5000 performance, I wouldn't go so far as to say it "blows all the competition away", but for a humble price this is a great buy.
