for the MD 300B

This is a follow up to my original review done in May. I don't know how to explain this, maybe the Western Electric 300Bs take longer to break in then I thought, maybe the amp itself takes longer or more likely the Audio Note speakers take longer. What ever it is when I was evaluating some cables I took the Audio Note M 5 preamp out of the system and when I added it back I was shocked. I thought I now liked the system better without the preamp. So I begin with the help of my 20 year old son to do some serious ABing and yes we both liked the system better without the preamp. It was more transparent; more detailed and had a wider and deeper soundstage. It lost very, very little in dynamics and had slightly better pace. The difference I am describing are very slight, but I wanted to let you know I no longer see why anyone would add a preamp to this wonderful little amp. By the way having lived with it for five months now I am more in love with it than ever.
