for the Dialogue II
Having only first hand experience/or owned CARY, VAC, Musical Fidelity, Linn and Prologue II, which I kept for two years, “one of my favorites regardless of price†and ran it 5 to 10 hrs a day, without a problem and never changed a tube. Also, I got the Prologue II as an interim amp when relocating/downsizing/not sure where I was going with my audiophile hobby. When I decided to upgrade and after researching / looking around (there is a lot of great stuff out there), I decided on the Dialogue II, for it fit my needs, power requirements and remote with the added feature of auto biasing (I could care less, if I ever bias another tube again.
With about 400 + hours of easy/critical listening on the Dialogue II, I find that I appreciate it more and more on a daily basis and that it has far exceeded my hopes and expectations. Please note again, I have only had experience with the above mentioned $1K+ to $6K range equipment. However, I must say that the Dialogue II has officially stripped my desire, curiosity, and “wonder if the other brand xxx integrated would sound/be better search†which is a great feeling. Also, I understand that there will be new product in the future that may tempt, but it will have to provide “substantial, not at this time†improvements for me to get rid of the Dialogue II it’s that good to my ears.
In closing, I recently replaced the Dialogue II KT88’s with some Svetlana EL-34’s and upgraded the 12 au/ax’s as well. The result for me was a smoother/velvety/increased refinement in the midrange, combined with an ever so slight/not bothersome loss on the top end, while still maintaining excellent base control, which I prefer over the stock KT88’s – your mileage may vary for it’s a personal thing.
