I have the Rotel 991 and it is very revealing. Fooling around, it can drive my B&W 805's to 1hz. However, it could have more imaging and soundstage. It can be bright and the 805's are bright as well. So I use a CJ PV10.
Sometimes I use this amp in a 5.1 setup to drive front L/R. I also switch out speakers and run Platinum Audio Studio 1's. It works well with these with a lot of bottom end.
I would like to find out more about Rotel's 400 wpc amp.

The speakers are on Sumiko Steel stands with spikes into hard wood floors. Audio Quest from CD to preamp, Straight Wire from preamp to power amp.

I listen to acoustic jazz, piano and classical music for evaluation. Ray Brown 3 is one of my reference cd's since I've used this on CD and record
in many evals.
