The L-40 is a 20 watt per channel FM receiver with a built-in CD player. I hooked it up to a pair of Klipsch Heresy IIs. The sound was very very good. I had been using the Klipschs with a Denon AV receiver. The sound with the L-40 was much better. Now the Heresys do not have low bass and in the AV system I was using a subwoofer. However on most music I prefered the L-40 even with out the sub. For someone wanting a small simple stereo system I higly recommenrd the L-40. The FM tuner has 30 presets all in one band. This was a nice feture. The FM section was also very good. Again it was better than the Denon on FM. It has many other features. You can go to the NAD web site for more information.
