I went minimalist after selling my Pass X250 amp and 2.5 preamp.

I am sorry that my comparison is not made w/just one change in my system (minor exception noted below), so beware in making judgments based solely on my thoughts.

The Accuphase direct-to-Edge amp clealy outshines my previous system (Audio Note x3.1 cdp, various preamps, including passive [Reference Line Preeminence, being the last], Harmonic Tech ProSilway Mk II cables, and above mentioned electr.s: only the Sonus Fabers and the Discovery spkr. cables remained constant).

I did have my old Classé DR-8 on hand, however, and replaced the Edge for a week, or so. I had previously been very happy with the DR...no more. It was almost unlistenable after hearing the Edge!

The greatest improvement is in speed: the immediacy now is startling. The musicality is also improved (the rosin on the violin thing), but the greatest betterment is in vibrancy. There is an energy which surrounds intrument/vocalist which is VERY much like the urgency of a live performance.

I have auditioned many other expensive SS amps, and tube as well, and can only say the AtmaSphere tubes so impressed me---though they came up short in the "urgency" factor.

In rock, classic, chamber, opera---you name it, this amp shines. The soundstage is wide, deep, & high with natural separation of instruments in complex, tutti orchestral and rock passages.

From Sam Cooke to Renata Tebaldi, voices are rendered with a realistic "warmth" and immediacy.

It is difficult to know exactly the level of responsibility solely attributable to the Accuphase, Edge, Audience products...but the synergy is amazing.

I have found my amp (and it continues to improve)!

(Sorry for the unusual "review": testimonial is more accurate).

Product Weakness: None, to date.
Product Strengths: Musicality, high current power. Stunningly beautiful, especially w/clear top and aluminum stand.
