Hi all

For my first ever review: I just wanted to contribute something on what I believe to be a genuine “good value” in audio peripherals.

Alan Maher:

 PE Plug-in Power Enhancers
 Studio Reference Power Cords

I draw similar parallels between Alan’s products and those from Star Sound who brought us the Sistrum Audio Points and racks – audio creations actually based on a legitimate science and technology, designed to be dead neutral, and to bring out the true sound characteristics of main components.

PE Plug-in Power Enhancers

I have had much the same positive experience with the Power Enhancers as other reviews I’ve read; they reduced the noise floor, improved dynamics and soundstage in my two channel system. Simply put: they made everything more natural and easy to listen to.

They also allowed my maximum listening volume to increase by about 10-15%, which was welcomed as I have always been concerned that my amp was not reaching its full potential when driving my very efficient 101 db speakers.

When I first received the two units my 300B amp was in the shop for 3 weeks, so I decided to try them on my separate home theater rig meanwhile. I was provided with a much sharper picture, better defined colors, and improved audio especially in the lower frequencies. My bedroom plasma benefited similarly, given that it is on the same circuit and just 20ft away in the next room.

While results may vary depending on how much grunge or rouge interference is apparent in ones' A/C lines, it’s hard to imagine many other accessories with a more “bang for the buck” factor.

Finally I thought that they might become redundant once I purchased a $2600.00 Equitec Balanced Power Conditioner for my two channel rig. Not so, as they made the Equitec sound noticeably more natural and refined overall.

Studio Reference Power Cord – Installed on my Transport.

I have no reason to doubt Alan’s theory that there is a significant cumulative effect each time more of his technology is added into a system, though I am not able to evaluate that at this stage.

What I do know is once I had the PC in for about 8 hours I immediate noticed an improved bass response – something that anyone with a 300b covets. It helped dramatically reduce lingering bass bloating by tightening it up considerably.

The PC took a few weeks to fully break-in, and finally settled into something musical and engaging. The bass tightened even more, overall there was more clarity and highs were more extended as a result.

The most pleasing attribute in my opinion is the uncolored and natural sound of the cable, particularly with timbre and mid range - which significantly increased my listening enjoyment!

Other benefits was more “air“ or space around the instruments, adding much improved separation and depth to the sound stage – which I plead guilty of putting too much value on at times.

I look back to the days when I was using cables as tone controls, as those tweaks ultimately became an unsolvable Rubiks cube, causing untold anxiety as I remember.

I genuinely do not wish to diminish those who have found comfort in using a darker cable to tame a “bright” component with satisfactory results; it’s just that I’ve abandoned that method out of self preservation..

That said I find this cable to have no harsh characteristics, especially apparent in the smooth upper range –if anything it’s to the warm side of neutral as they say, without the least expense to the dynamic range.

Whereas they should make any decent system sound more natural and therefore better in my opinion – they are not really designed to cure fundamental mismatches of components.

Getting back to the cumulative effect:

I understand from Alan that each of his cables uses the same basic technology as his PE a/c power enhancers whose effects travel beyond the actual components they service. Apparently, the idea is that they all link up together and create an overall system wide synergy. In effect creating a line of repeaters which mesh together to filter grunge, harmonically tune, and form a single common resonance within the collective wiring and power supplies.

The science is aided by the incorporation of the renowned Shakti resonance technology into each cable.

Lastly, I plan to soon add another of Alan’s PCs; this time to my Power Conditioner, then consider the DAC, and Amp - Including his matching interconnects and speaker cables which again share the same technology.

I am a firm believer in the power of synergy, so I hope to keep adding more - one by one - to the extent I am presently inclined to aim at a complete system.

Will keep you posted on the cumulative factor.

Questions welcomed.

Factory copy:

The Studio Reference power cable is one of the first to offer passive resonant tuning (PRT) to filter the harmonics within the cable design. We teamed up with Shakti Innovations to provide one of the finest cables ever produced. The Studio Reference is the first cable (to our knowledge) to be marketed as a power cord / resonant parallel filter. Our PRT technology passively filters incoming a/c and outgoing harmonics from power supply leakage. The PRT leakage can be used to enhance all other components plugged into the same electrical circuit as the Studio Reference.

The Studio Reference is a multi-conductor 6N copper design with a foil shield. We use Shakti RFI/EMI passive resonant filters to provide RFI/EMI filtering and harmonic tuning. The cable is terminated with Wattgate 330/350 a/c connectors. The Studio Reference can suppress noise from dc to 1.5GHz.
