No. "Losless" (which btw is your expression, not mine) is about the ability to revert to the original. Think like this :
4/2 = 2 -> 2*2 = 4 <- losless.
4/3 = 1.3333333 -> 3*1.3333333 <> 4 <- lossy.Look at the volume like 4 (max volume) / 2 (half the power of the volume).
The digital volume in XX only uses divisions which are losless.
What is the importance of this ?
Losless by itself does nothing (but describes the proces). It is about 4/3 not resulting in an even result with 6/3. So if two amplitudes occur, both should have the same relation to eachother at any volume. Thus :9/3 and 6/3 result in values with the same relation (9:6 = 3:2)
9/3 and 4/3 do not result in the same relation (9:4 <> 3:1.33333)Now, have a drink on me ! hehe

I can now use it exclusively to control my volume, (instead of changing 4 !! volume controls on my Pass Labs xover), and retain "lossless" playback! yeehaw ... Can any other player claim this? I knew there was a reason I held off getting a preamp.edit
