Opening windows and doors can make a big difference. In my case, a profound difference in the bass, where a small room has modes that are largely dissipated by opening doors and/or windows into much larger spaces. The effects would probably be much more subtle were I fortunate to have a larger listening room. (I prefer to have my own space so I can play what I want, when I want and at the volume I want.)
Do you know the DAC chip used to generate the DV989 analog output? Have you looked at the analog noise spectrum when playing SACDs? Perhaps the answers to these questions can shed some light on why your various signal paths sound different and why you prefer one to another.
