I tried zero feedback and direct coupling on my TU-879S and after a couple days I put the feedback back in. Although the details in the music were astounding, it was overly bright and not so musical sounding compared to having feedback. I could not sit back and enjoy the music anymore.
For direct coupling I took out the second pair of Mundorf Silver-In-Oil 0.1uf caps and left them out. I prefer the direct coupled sound. Its a bit more musical and still totally enjoyable to listen to.
You may want to try different resistor values and reduce the amount of feedback in your amp. That's an option I did not explore. If you do try it and find a nice sounding value, let us know. I may try this sometime down the road.
I'm thinking that if I do anything different to the amp, it may be to try a pair of V-Cap CUTFs in place of the Mundorfs. Another thought was to build a 2-3" deep wooden base for it and replace the electrolytics in the power supply with poly caps. Cashflow is limiting my ability to try any of the upgrades at the moment, but I will get to them in the near future.
