As someone whom has been actively researching tubes, by not only their brand names, but more importantly their particular factory sound which is more vital in selecting the correct tone in voicing ones system........, of all the Philips owned tube manufacturers, my absolute best sounding tubes as it relates to resolution as well as purity have to be those produced in the Valvo Hamburg Germany factory........, and speaking of German based companies on a whole, if you ever have the chance to hear a pair of the extremely rare Lorenz based anything?, I believe you'll begin to understand there's more to tubes then just Amperex ( actually made in the USA as opposed to Holland ) | Mullard and Telefunken's as some would have use to believe........
Seek and ye shall fine there's truth in my words.

Absolutely! Valvo Hamburg tubes are among my top 3 favorites.

I'm not a fan of USA tubes compared with Dutch. They sound dry and not as well rounded, in my system as the Dutch.

And I'd have to state once again, it's not a matter of selecting between American or European makes, as each has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. It's when one learns the importance of which factories in any given county produced the best tubes as it relates to fidelity as well as resolution.
Then the task becomes as one of my mentors taught me years ago, how to combine both American | European tubes together to create a unique signature which then has the bolder presentation of USA designs, in tandem with the more delicate structured sound of many European tubes.
And I'd have to ask have you every heard any tubes from the likes of Lorenz ( Germany )?, NEC ( Japan )?, National Union or Bendix or Western Electric ( USA )?, as I'd say while Dutch tubes are decent, it's once you've exploded the unknown or very seldom mentioned that the truth comes to the light.
There are much much much better makes to be had, provided one knows said factories?.
That's a good point. The actual Valvo Hamburg factory would have "D" as part of the date code. Example VR6 D6L8. Just a quick look at many of the Valvo E188CC's on eBay show they have a Delta (triangle). So made by Amperex for Valvo.
Personally these tubes are out of my budget, but interesting to note if I "go for it" one day.
Cheers!
