Are the NU 7N7 round plate tubes worth pursuing vs the standard Sylvania 7N7 short bottle?
Follow Ups:
I had about a dozen at one point which I'm sure I sold beneath their present value. I thought they had a nice full, rounded sound.
I always thought, however, that a couple of 2C22 were a much better sound. And 26, 01A and 4P1L were up a whole level from both.
No particular reason to stay with 6SN7 types at all.
How do you set up a 26 tube as a preamp? 90 volts, 4.5 volt fixed bias and a 1.5 volt AC filament with center tap to ground?I am willing to use a pair of 26 tubes to replace a 7N7 as a preamp tube. I should stay with 7N7 phase inverters as they do NOT have a huge effect on sound.

27 mesh plate or an RCA 76. The 27 mesh plate is getting harder to get but even some of the used ones are still very good. I have many NOS 27 mesh and out of all tubes I have worked with, they, when the operating points are done right, and near max, are the most transparent and dynamic and realistic tube I have heard. I have other rare NOS 27 tubes in mesh and solid plate but he Sylvania are the best.

ABSOLUTELY!

Confused?
Some NU 7N7 were made by Sylvania having the angled plates. NU also made round plates.
