I just built this same kit.First, thanks to Victor, I've never experienced an audio company rep that is so responsive to customers. My kit arrived with a busted tube after an upgraded shipment at his cost aimed at providing me with a kit during a narrow window of time I had to do this, but the man took great care of me and made the problem go away. So THANK YOU Victor.
My build experience (rather my inexperience) meant that I spent a bit longer than 8 hours getting this going, including messing up the side in which I installed the fuses, but I got there in the end and it worked perfectly from the moment I finally switched it on. I've had more than my money's worth of fun with it so far, even used it with a pair of mega-$$ speakers to see if it could....and it could. But, now I want to know if anyone has played with tubes and what improvements they have observed by rolling with this amp.
thanks

I had a very positive experience with Victor as well.
My post was pretty long so you may have fallen asleep before you got to it, but I did compare the EL34, 6L6, and 6n3c-e tubes in this amp.
I'll probably try a pair of KT88s or 6550s next, although Victor recommends NOS RCA 6L6s. That's the nice thing about this amp, you can roll so many power tubes. And from my very limited experience with it, it seems that the different tubes really do change the sound.
This is fun part of tube amp.
Mea culpa -- pure attention deficit, not a case of falling asleep at all with your excellent post. I was thinking from the published reviews that the 12ax7 was definitely worth changing. That would be my first choice for input from those who have tried.
