Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

How much experience do you have with building amps?

Rebuilding your ST70 from this schematic would seem to require a DIY'er with some experience working SS and tubes together.
I would think it would be pretty complex rebuild (relatively), from the stock st70 offerings. I have not read of anyone doing this particular rebuild and since none of this is available with documentation and circuit boards you will be on your own. For instance, you will not know how things will fit together. For example, where to put your voltage regulator. The transistors will likely require heatsinks which can take up a lot of space. Certainly not insurmountable issues but time consuming. I personally, like to keep the amount of SS devices in my builds to a minimum of maybe 1 because they seem to require a much more precise operating condition than tubes. And it is hard to foresee all the issues that may arise during a rebuild which can impact a SS device. Again if it were in a kit then you would have more confidence in the results. cheers, Dak
