After 20 years with a Mac C22 and MC225 I now find that I prefer my rebuilt Scott 299A with NOS GE 7189A's.
I remember back when I partially rebuilt the 299 I was blown away and had the thought of selling the Mac stuff but kept on using it because it was "better."
Now that I have a smaller listening room with smaller efficient EV speakers the Scott floats my boat with it's warm naturalness.
The 225 kicks butt and I also like my EL34 Scott 272 but there's something about the 7189 based 299 thats very appealing.
At one time I had a Dyna SCA35 and that sounded sweet as well so I'd have to conclude the 6BQ5 family does have it's merrits.
