...An oft forgotten reality is we are not machines and we don’t always hear, or perceive what we hear, exactly the same way day in day out.

Nothing else in human pursuit is always exactly the same so why would listening to music be any different?

Of course what happened in the scenario you describe is possibly a combination of every suggestion mentioned below or maybe something else?

Unless this phenomenon occurs again or regularly I wouldn’t give it another thought.
