NAD AV Receiver + Rotel RB 1070 Amp?

Has anybody auditioned or used a NAD receiver/preamp with a Rotel amp?
I have a NAD 743 (5x50) AV receiver and want to buy a power stereo amp for front channels. I have B&W 703's for front channels and this amp will power them. I didn't want to spend too much money on AV receiver as I don't care much for home theatre.
The reason of considering Rotel instead of a similar powered NAD is that now, after listening the NAD receiver, I feel that it is a little flat and bass is not lively. I was auditioning this receiver against a Rotel Receiver which was twice as much and it was bassy but also very warm, almost the opposite of NAD. Gave a little boom box feeling and it wasn't as cleart as NAD.
Anybody tried to combine the two? Is bringing out the best of each or the worst?
